Our passion at Carver Gifts has always been to make great gifts. So much so, that it’s our motto. Over the past year and a half we’ve make it our new passion to find a way to create beautiful Eco-friendly gifts. This was not easy, but we did it. We researched and talked to so many people, finding that only in the last few months have we really found the information we were looking for. This being because the Eco-consumer has really come out of the woodwork demanding an eco-option.

The issue we were having at Carver Gifts was packaging. How could we become Eco-friendly and still look great. Well we did it! We found a way to be esthetically pleasing and be kind to the earth. Before going on and telling you about our Eureka moment, let us back track to the ideas we originally had and the reasons we decided against them.

Our first option was to have recycling bins(boxes smaller than the curbside ones) made. Every supplier we spoke with mainly in Ontario and in the U.S. insisted that we have the bins designed by engineers before they created them for us. This left us perplexed as to why we would have to redesign a box so widely used. Not to mention our carbon footprint.

The second option was recycled cardboard box. This box would contain a percentage of post consumer waste. Well that was the tricky part. Every time we would get boxes made, we would never be sure what percentage of post consumer waste we would get. As well as a certain percentage would still be new material which we don’t want. The die cuts would still have to be constructed and boxes printed. The overall project used up way too much energy and had way to much of a carbon footprint.

So, our thoughts went a little like this…

Hmmm what am I going to do with all these reusable shopping bags? So many companies are giving away or people forget their bags at home and buy new ones. Eureka! We’ll use them to make our beautiful gift baskets. Now we not going to waste resources on creating new products. We can purchase them locally eliminating a lot of transportation, time and gas.

We will not be eliminating our baskets but giving our consumers an Eco-friendly, green option. These baskets will be made with the reused shopping bags, biodegradable cellophane, raffia and old magazine pages for the bows. Inside we will provide you with the information on how to recycle all the products used to construct the basket. Then all the Eco-friendly baskets purchased will have $5.00 donated to the David Suzuki Foundation. We will ALL benefit from the amazing work done by the foundation.

Here at Carver Gifts we have been doing our research to figure out how to make our gift baskets more earth friendly.
After lots of work, we will soon be launching our new eco-friendly boxes. You will have the option of using a eco-friendly gift box made of 67% post consumer waste, instead of our baskets. Inside the eco-friendly boxes you will find the delicious and high quality products we have always carried. You will also find some organic products as well that we are starting to carry. All the cellophane that we use to wrap our gift baskets is biodegradable. Our goal is to carry as much organic and eco-friendly products as we possibly can.

Over the holidays, Carver Gifts sponsored a local singing trio called “INSIEME ” for their Christmas Concert. It was the perfect hoilday outing and we looked forward to hearing their voices! To give back Insieme had a raffle where all the proceeds went to the Juvenile Diabetes foundation and ALS…this is where we come in. Carver Gifts created three beautiful baskets to be given away. Two of the baskets directly from Carver Gifts and one wrapped by Carver Gifts and the prize donated by “Picasso for Hair” Salon. I would like to mention how the hair basket was won by a gentleman with a shaved hair style…let’s hope he grew it out a bit to at least try the products. The raffle raised over $750.00 for both foundations, Thanks Everyone! By the way, for anyone holding a raffle, people love buying an arms length in tickets. The moral of this story is Carver Gifts loves to be a part of community events and we’re always looking for creative ways to give back. Happy 2009! We are proud to announce the beginning of our Carver Gifts Blog! Check us out weekly for updates on new products, specials, media news, and announcements!

So let me tell you a bit about Carver Gifts. We are three young ladies (Veronica, Maria, and Carla) with a passion for giving and getting great gifts! We are based out of Burnaby B.C. for those who don’t know that’s about 30 mins from Downtown Vancouver. We are a small company with Huge devotion to creating that perfect gift for anyone on your list! We have something for everyone, a New Baby, Anniversary, Get well, the guy who loves to golf to lady who loves to relax, and even that boss you have no idea what they love! Custom orders are also available!

2008 was a big year for us we opened a second office in Calgary in the spring that has been booming since day one! We are so proud of Barbara and all the hard work she is doing out there! This past Christmas was the busiest we have ever been,

delivering baskets from Vancouver to Miami and all that’s in-between! It was just what we needed to take on the new year on with a running start!

We are now on the lookout for better products that not only taste delicious but also are good for us. We are on the hunt for the best organic goodies to bring to you in 2009.
